I watched Whale Rider in class last week. Im not a very emotional person, but i have to admit it was a very touching movie. It was difficult to inderstand the spiritual stuff because most of it was in a different language, but it was still interesting. For girls, its a great movie about strength and courage and being true to yourself no matter what. Paikea is a very understanding character. We can feel for her in her struggle of a sexist tradition withought losing the love of her granfather. i liked how Paikea kept trying to please her grandfather. Also when she kept trying to be a good leader, even when nobody approved. I really enjoyed this film.

Six-Word Memoir Final

If you smile, then I smile
My little sister means the world to me. Her and I share the same passion for dance. Even though she's very young, she understands a lot. I love her energetic self. She's my little monkey and I don't imagine my life without her. Although she's a pain most of the time, I'm always going to be there for her. I can never stay mad at her adorable self for very long. She is so talented, I know shes going to be the best dancer when she gets older. Shes works very hard at what she does and it's going to pay off at the end. I love my little sister.

The book Persepolis is a very interesting and complicated story. The women are ordered to wear a veil over their heads as consequence for the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Marjane's mother was in the uprising against the veil and in one of the demostrations, a German journalist took a photo of her mother and published in all European newspapers. She had to dye her hair and wear shades to avoid the stares and looks of people in public. Marjane wants to be a prophet because she is very religious and keeps a close relationship with God. She wants to change the world. What I know about the rulers mentioned in this story is that some like Castro are Communist which are somewhat like Robin Hood but in an evil, corrupt way. Marjane learns that her grandfathers father was a prime minister and he was a communist himself. She becomes very upset that her family had ideas which she is totally against.

You Picked Me!

Dear Nemo,
You weren't supposed to be my dog. Even though I thought you were the most perfect puppy I had ever seen, I didnt want to get too close because you were supposed to be my friends Samantha's. That lasted about 4 minutes when I sat down on the floor near you. In between of all the puppies running around, the most magical thing happened. You picked me. You walked over to me and laid down on my foot. You fell asleep and I fell in love. Samantha never stood a chance with the two of us! Its been over a year and you still fall asleep on my feet. There were times when I didn't think either of us would make it. When you got sick from Parvo and the vet said there was nothing to do for you but I never gave up on you. You were brave and made it through. You are truly special and you have shown me the most amount of love and loyalty i've ever seen. I have had pets before, but none like you. You are the least well behaved dog I've had, but you make up for it in so many ways. Little did I know how much you would teach me and how much I would grow to love you Nemo!
